Hi, I am looking for data (metrics, statics or other) about online sale\e-commerce. Where Can I find it? (for free, or almost free)
I would go with the results of Google keyword tool, am not sure how reliable spyfu data are.
Cool! Thanks for this, this would give me a great report for my boss to pore over!
Google keyword tool is probably the most reliable. Plus this way you can reference (re. Google) instead of spyfu which is a name only known to the industry and not the general public
I’m glad to know it!
By the way, Census.gov updated Ecommerce report recently.
The main question is, what information SpyFu use for statistics calculation?
I think that Google statistics is better, as you receive it directly from Google engine in real time.
It is extremely important to know real time, updated information before making any decisions.
I have done a comparison between google keyword tool and spyfu , trying to estimate the volume of searches, and I see a huge difference (times ten difference!!!). Can anyone explain this gap? who am I to trust?
That’s a very interesting question here. My two cents:
-
In case you can not find a ready-made report, you may try posting/sponsoring surveys yourself. Compose 10-20 questions and ask some resources in your niche to post a link to it. You may even publish your statistics at a later time and gather some attention.
-
Use Google AdWords Keyword Tool to find popular queries in your niche and analyzing competitors.
Ok, that’s a very specialized niche.
Unfortunately I can’t suggest a resource for that exact issue but would suggest you focus two fold: first find the demographics of the typical customer, and then look into what, if any, research exists on similar solutions being offered online. You may not find a study of the exact customer population but you can find out who is buying, compare that to who buys, and then look at the efforts of your competition to see if it’s worth your time to try and sell direct online.
If you have a strong match on the demographics to the typical ecommerce customer, can solve any issues with sight unseed purchase (why people would buy shoes online) you can try carving a sales angle even if one doesn’t exist.
I am looking for e-commerce (online sales) information, not retail in general.
for fee-based, what about report linker?
Can you be a bit more precise with what you are looking for?
Scroll this page down http://www.census.gov/retail/

I would like to gather statistics or information about on-line buyers. ages, volume of money, habbits, what people buy online, what not…
I will be selling a medical device on-line in a few months, and I would like to understand how much will the marketing cost, how many searches etc…
You can find latest Quarterly E-Commerce report here:
This information is free.
As for fee-based, I can recommend Forrester Research: http://www.forrester.com/
I am in the medical devices sector.
Would like to sell online my product.
The product relieves constipation.
There are amazing amounts of data on ecommerce and in many countries, the general figures come pretty close to the overall population (slightly younger, slightly more affluent but at 8% of retail, very broad). Is there a specific segment or goal to your research which may help people suggest more accurate reports to look at in addition to the Census and other broad based research?
