I’ve got a customer who I’m going to start an Adwords campaign for. I also want to setup Analytics on their site. Do I need to setup an Analytics account in their name or do I just setup their site on my account and give them access to their site?
This question has come up a lot for me recently. For services that require the owner of the website to be in complete control of their accounts for legal reasons, how do web developers take responsibility for their customers’ accounts? Do you set any accounts up in the customer’s name and then access them yourself?
You have a number of options:
-
Set up a stand alone adwords account and link it to an analytics account by creating the analytics from the adwords ‘Reporting’ nav tab.
-
If you plan to manage multiple accounts set up a ‘My client Center’ and do the same as above although you can only link 20 accounts max before you’ll have to start creating independent analytics accounts
-
Set up a ‘My client Center’ and create separate analytics accounts for each adwords account. Don’t forget to link them or your PPC traffic won’t show up.
Comes down to how much control you wish to have over your clients accounts. For me, the less a client can “dabble” with stuff they really dont understand - the better.
Let them focus on running their business – you handle the technical stuff, thats what theyre paying you for.
