Make Gill Sans font look good in a browser

Hello everyone,

I’ve read that Gill Sans is a web safe font, however, it looks awful in a web browser. Is there any way of making it look nice? I’ve tried using CSS3 but it’s not really working.

I’ve heard of javascript elements that can embed a certain font. Not sure how to do it, but if anyone can I help I’d be most grateful thanks.

Gill Sans websafe? are you sure?
I didnt have it on my machine (Win7) and had to install it for a recent project.

Strange question - If it looks bad then don’t use it

See a recent thread on the pros and cons of [URL=“http://paulirish.com/2009/bulletproof-font-face-implementation-syntax/”]font-embedding.

Don’t make it bold

Seriously though, what problems are you seeing? I use gill sans quite frequently with no problems (it’s my favourite font) - the only problem I hit is not every computer has it (I’ve found linux often doesn’t) which in the grand scheme of things isn’t a massive issue

I like Gill Sans for print, and is fine for headings on screen, but I don’t find that it works at all well on screen at ‘body text’ sizes; unlike a lot of more modern fonts, it wasn’t ever designed for screen use, so doesn’t line up well with a pixel grid.

For that reason, I wouldn’t use it for body text. There are plenty of better alternatives, like Arial, Verdana, Trebuchet, Lucida Sans and Calibri.
