I’m the proud owner of a new mac, and of Photoshop CS5… my first computer years ago was a mac, but for the last 8 years or so have been on Windows…
and I had forgotten about this… on the mac Photoshop is “transparent”, that is, no background like on the pc, you can see other apps (or desktop) in the background… I find this a bit distracting… did a bit of searching, found it’s a screen mode setting, but in my PS when go to to view > screen mode, “full screen mode” is disabled… why is this…
The Snow Leopard kernel by default is 32 bit, but CS 5 applications are running in 64 bit mode by default. If you “Get Info” for the application, you will find information in there if it is set to run in 64 bit or not. You can uncheck a checkbox there if you want it to run in 32 bit mode.
thank you for yr response… I don’t think it’s possible to do what I want on the mac… I want the app to be in full-screen mode, not the file I have open… I want the app to have a bg so I don’t see the desktop in the background, but want to have diff open files “floating”; I don’t like to have files full-screen, I never do that… oh well…
Transferring actions may be an issue if you are running in 64 bit mode and the action uses one of the few things that only works in 32 bit mode (for now, at least). I think a couple of things also disappeared from CS5 that were in previous versions, but nothing I used.
Don’t give up, there are lots of options. Open the files you want to work on. Choose View > Screen Mode > Full Screen Mode with Menu Bar to get the gray background. Then click the little button near the top left that I’ve highlighted in the screen shot below. It allows you to set how many files appear open at once. You can choose to have them sit side by side, one atop the other etc…
hmmm… I just looked, did get-info… doesn’t say anything about whether it’s 32- or 64-bit (even under “more info” dropdown…) am getting ready to copy actions, but not sure (also another responder further up mentioned not sure you can transfer actions fm windows to mac…) maybe I need to call Adobe about this… thank you…
oh – since one responder had said that transferring actions could be an issue if “running in 64 bit mode”; I assumed he meant the OS… but well, not sure… will check google links you posted also… thank you very much…
thank you so much… both responses were awesome… of course Window > Application Frame works like a charm… does exactly what I wanted… as to other respondent, that one works awesome too, as there are lots of options…
now someone pls tell me CS5 is not too terribly different from CS4…
(and I can transfer my Actions from CS3 for the pc to PS CS5 for the mac, right? (I work I have CS4, at home, till now, had CS3…)
