Looking for MediaWiki skinning help & resources

This topic may not be quite right for this part of the forum, but I was hoping I could at least get some leads to pursue this way.

Basically, I am looking for anyone who is familiar with reworking/creating skins for the latest version of MediaWiki, alternatively anyone who can point me to such a person. We recently attempted to upgrade our MediaWiki 1.17.0 installation to 1.23.2 and found that the edits we had managed to get into the skin for 1.17.0 were nowhere to be seen in the new skin. Worse, when we tried to reproduce those edits, we found that the way skins are handled had changed considerably from our version. We attempted to understand how you modify the new type of skin, but found it to be well beyond our capabilities.

So, if we’re going to be able to upgrade, we’re probably going to have to look at either finding an already modified skin to purchase or finding someone who might be hired to do what we need, unless there’s a really good tutorial out there that goes beyond MediaWiki’s own resources for how to make or modify skins. Any leads in either direction would be very welcome.

Never looked into MediaWiki because I never had the need to create a wiki myself. I would assume that MediaWiki.org should have more information. I did a quick search in Google and looked at the first page of results and I don’t know how useful there may be. I think these may be interesting

I’m aware that this is something that you could have done yourself and, probably, you did but I personally can’t be of further help.

I’m moving the thread because I don’t think that you’re going to get enough answers here, in General Discussions which is more dedicated to talk about everythying but work

Thank you for moving the topic - I wasn’t sure what the best fit was.

I have indeed looked at the MediaWiki resources that you link, but they fell short of what I needed. Some of the skins made available had decent layouts, but with a lack of information on how to modify them further, we still couldn’t sort out how to get the look to match the rest of the site.
