Looking for employee management software -- anything out there?

Hi all,
I’m trying to assist my boss in finding a solution to help him manage his small office of employees (me being one of them!). Does anyone know of any software to help him do the following?

  • simple, not complicated
  • don’t need it to manage large, complex projects–just day to day stuff
  • web based so it can be updated anywhere
  • track projects: updates, milestones (maybe)
  • track manpower: hours worked, projected leave, weekly schedule, calendar

Just looking for ANY ideas. If I need to customize something, then so be it. Perhaps there is a wordpress theme that can do this? Thanks!

Actually, now that I think about it, perhaps a simple private Google site would work with widgets and stuff. But, if anyone still has any other ideas, let me know!

There are so many products to do things like that, your request is actually too vague. What is it, exactly, that you are looking for? You can do most of that with basecamp and some kind of scheduling tool.

Seconded Sagewing. http://37signals.com/ Basecamp is clean, slick, effortlessly collaborative. I’ve read of some designers actually incorporating it into their process, they let their clients track milestones and look at the live schedule so they can see who is working on what on their project. Pretty neat.

You might be looking for something like Rescue Time, but not sure if it has 100% of the functions you mentioned.

We used basecamp. Changed over to 5pmweb.com for the gantt charting (among other things). It helps when you’re trying to figure out how you are using your resources.
