Loads of contact page visits -but no-one filling it in!

Hi,

I have found this problem with a number of my sites and I wonder if there is anything i amy be missing.

The problem: When I monitor my website using google analytics I often find that the contact form which is usually the third or forth highest page visited. However the amount of people actually filling it in is almost non-existant.

So I am thinking. Loads of people clicking but for some reason they are not taking things any further. The form is quite simple, I monitor who is actually going to each page the form and then the thank you page.

What have others found? Is the contact page often a high profile page (maybe psychologically tend to go to the contact page just to browse). Is it spam? Is it something Im just not aking into consideration? Have others found the contact page high on their hit pages in google analysis?

thanks

It could be spammers, but I doubt they would be statistically significant like this.
Have you made sure your form works in all browsers?
Do you offer just an email address for people to contact that don;t like using forms?

Also - some people (me included) sometimes view contact pages like an about page to see where the person/company is based (physical address). I won’t do business with a company online that does not have a physical address and phone number available on the site for example.

Yes there are phone mumbers and email and physical address.
I dont think its the mechanics of the form because ive seen this behaviour on more than one website.
Interesting what you say about not doing business with a company that does not have a physical address.

I don’t get it. the contact page can be seen here:

I’d agree with that. I always look for contact details, not necessarily to use them at that point, but to make sure they’re available if needed. In addition, it is a legal requirement in the UK for contact details, including name and postal address, to be displayed on any site where payment can be taken for goods or services.

So the people viewing - but not completing - your contact form may not be “failures” but may well be considering doing business with you.
