I often get asked about the best “getting started” resources for PHP developers - “what’s the best website to learn PHP?” My answer is always the same - jump into the fire and try to put it out. I wish I had something more concrete to suggest, and I assume it’s surprising I don’t suggest SitePoint right off the bat, but there’s only so much tutorials can do for you if you haven’t even gotten your feet wet (or burned?) yet.
This is why I was especially glad to hear about this excellent list of must-watch PHP talks. Not all of the talks on the list are useful. Heck, most aren’t even beginner friendly. But spend a couple of weeks with a technology of your choice, then watch the related talks, and things will clear up like you never thought possible - hearing someone knowledgeable talk about something you’re getting started with and are interested in opens a whole lot of new horizons and clears up things you didn’t even know were unclear.
