IMO it’s just Governments slowly controlling the Internet, whether you are for file sharing or not it’s going to find every hole it can, believe it or not.
The ruling follows a long-running legal dispute with the Recording Industry Association of America, which represents the major record labels and accused Lime Wire, the company behind the LimeWire service, of infringing copyright
How can you tie the government into it when its the music industry bringing the action?
Filesharing will find another way, probably by paying minimal royalties to the record labels although that would only be for music. Other files are shared which is how it will circumvent this action.
I tried Frostwire, not as good as Limewire. The RIAA is extremely happy over this victory, the only options probably are torrents which don’t seem that reliable and buying it from iTunes.ca which is the RIAA goal.
I welcome this closure - It’s about bloody time too. There used to be this time when everyone was happy buying all of their music on cassette tapes and CDs and then file sharing applications like LimeWire and FrostWire come along as well as torrent services and then almost everyone stops buying music.
Did everyone forget you’re stealing and you’re actually a criminal? Stealing 1 song (or thousands of songs and a few hundred films!) is just as bad as stealing a car or an iPod or something from a store. You work for money to buy essentials for living and then any money spare you can buy your luxuries with such as songs and films, etcetera.
I’ve always purchased all of my songs and films off Apple iTunes and I’ve been more than happy to as well. Most people are shocked though when I tell them I’ve spent over £200 in the last 2 years on Apple iTunes.
Go download Apple iTunes and register for an account or go to your nearest HMV store
Interesting you should bring that up Andrew. I was recently watching something by the NIA and did you know that the Government imposes so many laws that even those people who love to gloat that they are and I love when they say it “law biting citizens” that even those people clearly do not know all the laws. I’m not condoning hooliganism, everyone has a right to quite and peaceful living conditions and shouldn’t hear other peoples noise that is where I would say areas dedicated to this in the city or town should be built. Reverting back to what you said, that is fine that you’ve paid for all of your iTune songs I don’t know what praise you want ! Many cannot afford or choose not to use the extra money to pay for something they can get for free.
I work in retail and I’m desperately trying to get out of it, I’d thought I’d share this with you and everyone. Recently two customers approached me and showed me a cardboard christmas looking box it was small roughly 1.5 in width, height and dimensions, probably had all of only a few chocolates within which had been ripped to grab a few. One of the customers was so amazed by this as if they were just born yesterday but both where probably in their late 50’s or 60’s. They told me ‘what do you do to stop this’, what do I do I replied, nothing what the company does, nothing this has been going on for decades further one of the customers told me that this should be stopped. To which I replied before the conversation dispatched, go ahead, try that is the operative word ‘try’.
Lol, I wasn’t looking for praise. I can’t afford a car so I don’t go driving around in a stolen one or something. Whatever I can afford, I buy. What happened to what our parents and teachers taught us in school? Does that not apply anymore? I only own what I’ve paid for, and rightly so. Unless somebody has given me something for free out of their good will (A SitePoint giveaway for example).
It’s terrible that what you described goes on, but that is the way the World works and I can’t fix it nor would I ever attempt to fix it. But I still believe downloading music for free when it should be bought is wrong. Unless the laws on downloading / buying music is very different in your country, in which case, go mad!
I agree completely Andrew. I have some friend being musicians. For some of them the royalties is part of there regular income. I heard of figures for them down with over 50%.
When they don’t let you atleast demo whatever it is, then pay for it. Food and things like this they should let you demo all the food, alot of food out there tastes like crap, yet they want you to buy it, or it’s reinvented food of the same product but now it’s a different name.
