Let's Encrypt

I was rather excited to read about the new Let’s Encrypt certificate authority today. It’s going to make SSL/TLS a realistic option for the rest of us, it seems. Here’s an article about it: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2014/11/certificate-authority-encrypt-entire-web

Apart from the typically US myopic “summer of 2015” launch prediction (whose summer, where?) it’s a rather impressive effort.

That does look like a great initiative.
Anything that can simplify a complex process which inherently makes web browsing more secure would be +1 for me!

I wonder how the company selling expensive certificates will feel about it.

Probably they’ll either be glad they previously divested into other income streams… or they’ll be really upset, if they didn’t? lol

I wonder how much money actually comes out of it? I know several of the companies who issue certs do lots of other things.
