Hi,

Please see the OP’s original post #1 and how he has broken down his review of the movies e.g.

Movie name,
Would he recommend it?
What he liked,
What he didn’t like.

Just posting a name or a vague title of what you saw defeats the point of the thread.

Thank you.

Oppenheimer

Would I recommend it? Absolutely.

What I liked: The performances were outstanding, particularly Robert Downey Jr., and the depiction of the test detonation was breathtaking. The film’s deep dive into the ethical questions surrounding the project was compelling.

What I didn’t like: It felt a bit overlong, and some of the scenes with Florence Pugh felt extraneous. The multiple timelines were sometimes hard to follow, and the ending left me wanting more resolution for Oppenheimer himself.

Oh, I didn’t know there was a film version! I only watched the cartoon when I was a kid, sounds it gonna be a good film.

Movie: the Beekeeper

Would I recommend it to others?

Depends. If you’re looking for an oscar worthy flick, this is not something you want to watch. But if you’re looking for a good mind-numbing action flick and don’t mind illogical jumps in the story line, this is the movie for you.

But I was of the mind of not wanting to think, at which point I found it immensely entertaining.

Plot

A woman commits suicide after having gotten scammed out of the funds of a charity she ran by a call center scammer doing the “you’ve been infected call us” scam utilizing stolen secret federal algorithms. So a retired ex-special forces agent who had been renting space from the woman goes on a rampage of revenge, all while being “chased” by the woman’s FBI agent daughter. He starts with the immediate call center that scammed her and moving up the proverbial food chain until reaching the ultimate villian, the son of the president of the United States, a business woman who got elected using the funds elicited from these scams.

Less thought out Bourne plotlines with dulled down action reminiscent of the Kingsman movies (though not as ridiculous).

What I liked
There was some creative action sequences which while a bit ridiculous at times, were at least not something I had seen over and over again before.

What I didn’t like
There were some big jumps in the movie which didn’t make a whole lot of sense in the plot, and some sequences which didn’t make sense how they got to them…

Thanks for the recommendations I would say Titanic is already in my list.

Movie: Wicked

Would I recommend it to others?

Absolutely, especially if you’re a fan of Broadway (or movie) musicals. This was a spectacle for the ages.

Plot

This is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, and tells the stories of the Wicked Witch of the West and Galinda the Good.

This is the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, and the first movie covers the first act of the show.

What I liked

A caveat here - I’ve not seen the Broadway version of Wicked, so I cannot accurately compare the musical to the movie.

This was hands down one of the best adaptations of a Broadway musical to a movie I can recall seeing. The entire musical is a little over two hours, and they managed to stretch out the first ACT of the musical into a 2 1/2 hour movie event. And with the exception of the overtly obvious fan service number with Kristen Chenowith and Indina Menzel (the original Broadway Galinda and Elphaba), they did a phenomenal job of extending the music and plot without pulling away from the original storyline.

The visuals were stunning. Granted, the movie makers had the freedom to embrace the fantasy portion of this universe and weren’t handcuffed by having to ensure a sense of realism, but the movie blended real sets and stunts with special effects to a stunning effect. I usually get restless sitting in a theater for more than two hours and start checking the time, but this experience seemed much shorter than it actually was and you get lost within the story.

Cynthia Erivo is terrific as Elphaba, with a powerhouse voice and a wonderfully expressive face. Ariana Grande was BRILLIANT as a comedic foil.

What I didn’t like

The only thing I didn’t enjoy was Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. He was too prototypically Jeff Goldblum-y (like he was embracing all the worst parts of the memes that are put on about him), and didn’t fit the world being built in the movie.
