Prominence is how close to the start of the area that the keyword appears. In general, a keyword that appears closer to the top of the page or area will be more relevant for search engines. However, sometimes it helps to have a keyword in the middle of an area, or even toward the end of the area.
Prominence plays a critical role particularly in directory based engines such as Yahoo. Often having the keyword slightly more towards the beginning of the site description or site title will make a large difference in your ranking.
Examples of prominence:
1.If a keyword appears at the beginning of an area, its prominence will be 100%.
2.If a keyword appears in the middle of an area, its prominence will be 50%.
3.If the keyword appears at the beginning of the area, then another repetition appears at the end of the area, the prominence would be 50%.
4.If the keyword appears at the end of the area, prominence would be 0%.
This is a bit of a redundant thread.
A keyword by definition is “A significant or descriptive word.” and when you write a peice of copy, like an essay or a webpage, your keywords will always be in the Title, headings and in the copy, it’s unavoidable. So simply because you want people to understand what your writing is about you’ll have naturally put the keyword phrases in the ‘prominent’ positions. You shouldn’t have to fake it, write your web page so that humans can read it and you’ll be fine.
As for your perecentages, I’d imagine they’re made up, unless you can link a credible source for them?
