Good morning SitePoint Community,

I had a quick question regarding the current “preferred” standard for adding <META Keywords> to a new site:

What is the preferred practice for inputting multiple KW phrases, i.e. if I wanted to add “athletic footwear” to my KW list, would I input that as:

  1. “athletic footwear”,
  2. “athletic-footwear”, or
  3. “athletic_footwear”

Granted, there are more ways of entering this information, but I figured I’d just provide a few examples so you could all generate a better idea of what I’m referring to.

In any case, please advise me on what you all consider to be the best practice for adding keywords to the META Keywords portion of a webpage.

Yea, here you go:

I would say #1, but I also want to point out that Google has stated plainly that they completely ignore the Meta Keywords tag, so I wouldn’t recommend spending too much time on this.

Yes, I was aware that the META Keywords portion of the page has diminished in value, but I did not know it is now irrelevant. Thank you for that valuable insight.
