I have an old site that has many backlinks and is optimized for the term St. Petersburg webdesign.
I have been out of the web development business for about 4-5 years but the site still appears in the results and has 3 pages of backlinks.
I am starting in a new direction, internet advertising.
My question is, would it be better to get a new domain and optimize it for internet marketing or keep the old domain and add internet advertising to it’s SEO.
On one hand I’m thinking that if I keep the old site the SEO will be diluted from my previous efforts. On the other hand it has a PR 3 that may make it more “visible”. It will require a complete rebuild.
Wait, You you are moving to internet marketing right and your old website has ranked on St. Petersburg webdesign…These both business are all most in same category, NOW no need to go with new domain because only relevancy does matter
Your old domain PR and backlinks show truest on eye of Google, and i don’t think that you wanna lost it. Only one thing you should do is, Just redevelop your exist website according to your new task or business with great contents + awesome design. You will win soon
You can use the old website or you can get backlinks and traffic to your website by giving an advertisement in your old website about your new website. or use old website and get instant traffic to your website.
Thanks for the replies. @Clarkjackson, I think you are right by the trust of Google, that site has been around since 2000. I’ll go with the old site and change the copy and get new backlinks.
I would go with a different domain. You can always buy aged domains on the market. Internet marketing is not an easy site keyword to rank, and I would pick a domain with keyword in it for sure.
I would advise build both new domain and existing site, because you can make cross link over 2 site. Imagine if we have 2 site list in top search, it definitely encourage more visit rate.
You should go with your old domain, as it’s having a great number of backlinks and PR of 3. You can redesign your website and update it with your new business and put the good amount of content.
