Before going to start the process for your site first check your site content is unique or not, keyword density in your site content, and check out your web site title is related to your targeting keyword.
What is “genuine traffic” for your site? Does your site sell something and therefore you want more conversions/sales, or do you want engaged users? etc.
Define what the purpose of your site is and you’ll have a better idea of the type of traffic you want, and which techniques might help you get it.
Age of your site??? Where you rank for your keyword???

Agree with everyone here. Have you tried quality content and proper onpage optimization? Also think about building quality links over quality. You can rank higher than your competitors by focusing on quality in spite of your competitors’ massive backlink count.
