Is There A Real Benefit For Adding Optimized Titles/Meta Etc. For Archives & Tags?

For a niche based site using a blogging type of platform (Wordpress) do you see a real benefit in keeping up with optimizing, titles, description, keywords, etc. for archive based pages such as categories and tags?

I have always turned a blind eye to this area (focusing mainly on the main content pieces and pages) but I was curious if I might be missing a decent rank opportunity by not including the category and tag archive pages.

I can’t see why it would hurt, getting more pages on a search engine = more clicks.

I wouldn’t bother about keywords. Most search engines no longer use the keyword meta tag.
