Over the past year and a half I’ve noticed that I have been getting responses for job offerings primarily from start-ups, with only a few mid-size companies that I can count in one hand. These start-ups usually have a one-man IT team (usually the person carrying out the job interviews) or maybe just one other guy who does coding work.
From my past experience I’ve grown skeptical about startups, and prefer wanting something more established with more than a couple of co-workers that understand what it is that I do. At least somewhere with a dedicated IT staff with several specializations.
But considering the state of the economy in the US, are job offerings from these bigger established companies pretty slim? Or is it just towards me? A lot of places still consider my work junior-level (I’ve been in web dev work for 4 years) and maybe also a lot of companies can’t afford to grow these days, so only the little ones get that advantage to hire with less overhead.
I want to know how the situation is with startups versus older, larger companies, and if anyone is feeling the crunch, not in how many offers you’re getting, but if the types of places offering them have changed.
