SEO is the process which we have to do continuously to be in the market.

It all depends on competition for a particular keyword under your niche.

That just isn’t true. When algorithms change, things that were previously beneficial may cease having any effect, and may even become harmful. Things that previously didn’t do you any good may become essential. Unless you know exactly what Google is going to do in the future, and what all your competitors are going to do in the future (in which case, there would be far more profitable things you could do than SEO ), you can’t say that you will never need to consider your SEO again.

SEO is an ongoing process, especially if you notice that your website is moving down the ranks in the search engines results. You have to analyze what steps your competition are doing as well to make sure what you are doing is sufficient and to keep you on top of the internet marketing game.

Exactly.

Since most SEO is off-page for competitive keyword phrases, what you do on your page is hardly worth worrying about, it’s what your competitors are doing and your ongoing link acquisition that matters most.

If you selected less competitive keywords then its ok, you have no competition then you will still be there. If competition increases then it is very difficult to get your position stable.

SEO is an ongoing process. If you think of it as a one-off or isolated activity, divorced from the creating and maintenance of your site, it won’t be particularly effective at the start, and will be less and less effective as time goes by.

For a start, you have to integrate SEO into the way you build and update your website. As pages get added or changed, you need to optimise them. As the nature of your business changes, as the way people use the web changes, you’ll find that you need to optimise your site differently to keep at the top. Competitors come and go, and they will be continually playing the SEO game, and moving forwards, so you need to keep working at it or they will leave you behind. And ultimately, Google’s algorithms are not set in stone, they do change from time to time, and so a page that starts at the top of the SERPs won’t necessarily stay there when Google next changes the way it ranks pages, so you can’t just set it up and leave it.

it all depends on the competitiveness of your keywords and the relative value of your content. If you’ve got good content (and content that stays relevant over a period of time), people will continue to link to it.

Saying that you’ll never have to do SEO again, is however, too naive. You can’t say today that you won’t have to do something in 5 years time. You’ve got to keep monitoring what’s going on. Also, if a competitor (or multiple) launch some new marketing*/SEO campaigns, you might be taken by surprise and too late to do something about it.

  • I mention marketing here, because people always forget that SEO should only be a minor part of an overall marketing strategy. If you don’t have one in place, you should develop one immediately.
