Is it possible to redirect a domain permanently with "www" through to FTP?

Hello guys,

I just want to know that is it possible to redirect a domain permanently with “www” through to FTP?

Sorry, @gracedervishi, but I don’t understand your question. Can you explain in more detail what you;re trying to achieve?

(I’ve also removed the “seo” tag from your thread, as I can’t see any possible connection with SEO.)

As I have a website, but the exact same url of my website opening by two different types with same content “www.abc.com” & “abc.com”. From SEO point of view it will negative point of my website because it looks like duplicate website so I just want to know how to redirect it to one single url through FTP.

I use this .htaccess script:

RewriteEngine On

# REDIRECT to WWW from /
  RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^abc\.com$ [NC]
  RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.abc.com/$1 [L,R=302]

# REDIRECT to / from WWW
   # RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.abc\.com$ [NC]
   # RewriteRule ^(.*)$ www.abc.com/$1 [L,R=302]

I would first recommend using a 302 temporary access because the global routers will check your .htaccess site to ensure the 302 redirection is still valid.

Once you are satisfied that the redirection is correct then change the 302 temporary redirection to a 301 permanent redirection.

Edit:
A Google search for “.htaccess redirect www”

It is also worth noting that if there is a hyphen in your domain name it also requires backslash escaping.

As John has already explained, the way to deal with the situation is to redirect one version (with or without www) to the other.

See Google’s guidelines on the subject: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/44231?hl=en
