Is 3 words too long for a domain name?

I’m developing a site right now which I plan to invest quite a bit of money into- lets say its a site about music lyrics (which it isn’t, but the keywords are similar).

Of course, all the good names are taken. Right now I’m debating calling the site: www.FindMusicLyrics.com

My concern is…is 3 words too long for a domain name? Will people remember it? Or would i be better off calling it something like www.bobslyrics.com (i.e. a jibberish word in front of one of my keywords).

Thanks for your opinions and advice :- )

For me it’s really too long, I prefer short domain names…
But if you are planning to promote this site fr main KW like Find Music Lyrics - you are welcome, but honestly word “find” is unnecessary.

I agree with “tanya1177” about promotion, it will be good for keyword: “Find Music Lyrics”.

Ive just check it on Google AdWords, here is the results for October:
find music lyrics - 5400
song lyrics - 6600
music lyrics - 2400
lyrics - 673000
free lyrics - 1600
music lyric - 260

but personally I like short domains and domain bobslyrics.com could have more personalized design, something like a boy with notes or guitar, boy name’s Bob etc…

But of course its up to you, which domain name is best for your site!

Good luck

What will you say about websiteshostingpromotions.com?
It is working fine for us for last 6 years

Actually name depends upon what are you dispalying on site as well as what keywords you want your website to be searched.

Good luck.

well, this is a relative choice, even a three word domain can do well,if the name is catchy and content is relavent.

I would go with FindMusicLyrics.com. The keywords on domain would give some edge on SERPs. However you may wanna avoid too long names.

All words you have in the prefix for the domain name are vocabulary words. I like it. Good domain name here.

it depends on the word that you will going to use…but even if it’s long as long as it is relevant to your site, it will surely work…

wwwdotFindMusicLyricsdotcom sounds good…the domain name is self explanatory and i think it’s a good choice to opt this name…

A few things about FindMusicLyrics.com

  1. Each word is short
  2. The phrase is one that would spoken opposed to “music lyrics find”
  3. It’s a .com
  4. The phrase is searched

It looks good to me.

4 is very important, if we can have it on the domain, for sure.

Shorter is always better. In your situation, it comes down to your source of traffic:

Are you counting on SEO?
Or will you be advertising the site?

If you choose SEO, then the domain you have chosen is definitely your best option. If you are going to be actively advertising the site anyway, then choose something shorter.

Hope that helps.

I much prefer short domains or two word domains but as long as your domain is easy to remember it doesn’t matter.

3 word domains can work just fine as long as they make sense.

Like prophp.us said, the main point you should consider is whether you will be receiving the majority of your traffic from search engine results or offline marketing.

I agree. One thing to remember is that in general it’s going to be hard to find a good, short, searched for name. So many of them are already taken that I don’t think 3 words is too long. And since you have short and simple words, it’s really not burdensome to the name.

I think that is way to many to use I think two is really the max that you can have. Once you get more then that you will still do alright in the search engines but not so well for people remembering your name.

What’s hard to remember about “Find Music Lyrics”, “Web Designers Directory”, etc?

“Find Music Lyrics” I think is a good name. It’s direct, not to long, and straightforward…it tells you what it is all about. And people might even type in those exact keywords when looking music lyrics.

Having rules about 2 or 3 words max seems pointless because it’s not always possible to follow them, and sometimes a better name actually has one more extra word.

It doesn’t really matter… We all would love to have a great domain, but it’s not really gonna “make or break” your sites success/potential to a degree where you have to worry so much about it at this point.

I’d go with a generic 3 keyword domain though, for a very simple reason, in that the keywords within the domain help attract longtail search engine traffic… If your domain is bobslyrics for example, you wasted 50% of your domain on nothing… If your domain is FindRapLyrics or something like that, you are making the most of your domain.

Good luck:)

If the majority of your traffic comes from search/links then definitely stick with the longer keyword domain.

If you think that you will be getting tons of return customers who visit the site daily then maybe purchase a shorter name.

All depends on your marketing goals…

I like domains that describe the service and has the keywords, so findmusiclyrics.com would be better because it has keywords in it.
