Info on brochure z-fold

Hi, I need to make a z-fold brochure of 24 pages (48 sides), 11cm x 15cm. My question, when using a z-fold do I have to add some margins for the paper fold? Cause I’ve read that when using z-fold I can also not add margins, as the paper fold will not create any difference/space between the pages (that are all the same in cm). Can you help/confirm this?

I’d still say talk to the printers. At the end of the day they are the ones who will be taking the job and printing it, they’ll be familiar with their set ups and other jobs they’ve done that are similar. It is in their best interest to have you supply good source material that makes their lives easier when they come to print it.

What happens if we say it doesn’t make any difference and you turn up and find that it does? Better to be able to come back straight away and say, “I talked earlier with your technical department and they advised me to…”, than to explain that to the client that, “I assumed I didn’t need to add any margins but I actually discovered I did”.

I guess I’m a little unclear as in my mind a z-fold brochure of 24 pages at 11cm width would fold down to a small accordion.

Hi, I will be use photoshop only. Again it’s a z-fold, I know I need to add some space for bleed, but does the z-fold also need some margins for the paper-fold? I’ve read that on z-fold there is no need for margins for paper-fold cause all pages would be the same size. Can you confirm me this? x)

An example… if I make the first page 105mm, the second 105mm and so on… it will be printed ok?

What are you using to lay out the brochure? Most design programs are able to allow for creep, margins, bleed etc on a page or spread basis. It means you can alter the layout or pagination without having to re-jig the layout. Many prepress programmes can do these adjustments if your file is set up correctly.

If you know who will be printing this job I would contact their pre-press department and talk to them, they likely use standard settings that you can incorporate into your design right from the start.
