Can you influence google instant e.g When you start typing a query it brings up what it thinks you are looking for, not the results but the actual keywords.
I’ve noticed my initial keyword was 3rd on the list, now it’s at the top. Im thinking as I am only influencing 1 keyword at the moment (new site) it would be ideal for this keyword to be at the top of the list…
If I were to say automate 1000 searches a day on that keyword, will it start influencing it. Id like to think yes as even tho it might be coming from the same IP, this could be an internet cafe computer e.t.c
Google is pretty smart, and will be able to track where the hits are coming from. If there is a huge spike from one particular IP, or with identical identifiers on the same IP range, or anything else that smells like a bot that is repeatedly hitting the same query/URL in order to fool Google into thinking that lots of people are looking for that site, they will just ignore those hits.
You could automate if you did it from behind multiple proxies and you could schedule it otherwise I wouldn’t bother. Google will know and will penalise you for it.
Nowadays people are always logged with a Google account (either to access orkut, gmail, and other applications here in Brazil). Thus, it can determine the best search in relation to the sites you frequent, explaining the results each time to refine searches.
the keyword thing is using Google Suggest, which uses Google Zeitgeist. So it would need to be a sweeping trend. You probably will need more than 1000 queries to push it. And like Stevie said basing all the queries at one spot would nullify the popularity. Also, as Apice said, if you are logged in and search something a lot (legimately), then your keyword autofill draws on past search strings to some extent. Which I am assuming you are aiming towards the unique hit (first time visit/search) crowd, vs usual visitors
