Index Description Issues

Just discovered how google is indexing my page.

If you search for example for this page

You will see the text : View Full Profile - Wedding Photography Select

I have set title tags and h1 tags and the above text ‘View Full Profile’ isn’t even on the page in question.
It should say something like : Wedding Photographer Martin Beddall - West Sussex

Similar pages in bing and duckduck show the correct results

Any ideas.

Thanks

Yes, but the page is
profile.html

My guess is Google is assuming you named it appropriately.

That doesn’t make any sense to me. Where does it get the View Full Profile from and why is it ignoring the title and h1 directives. The whole point of the title is for the search description, at least this seems to be the case with hundreds of other sites.

Why is bing and duckduck doing what I assumed google should be doing in the 1st place.

Google does not always use the Page title - as Mittineague says Google is showing what it thinks is appropriate for search results, eg it’s a “profile” page about you…

It’s not just me it would seem

My titles in some places may be a bit long, but not on the example I give in the 1st post on the profile.html even if they are too long I would expect google to just shorten them and not put the same crappy generic description in for hundreds of different pages.

The title are different too. I generate them based on the page e.g.

Wedding Photographer #NAME# Wedding In #Location#

So they change completely for every different page. How else could I describe it. Pi$$ing me off now.

Have you seen this explanation from Google? https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35624?hl=en

One of the problems I see with the page you linked to in your first post is that there is very little actual text on that page. The less you give Google, the more they’ll rely on other indicators.

Thanks All.

I understand why it’s happening now and will take a look at that link TechnoBear.
