Images not showing in posts?

On PHPBB3, my unintelligent hosts keep doing ‘something’, (I do ask them what they do, but they never come back with clear answers), where the images that were showing in posts, no longer show in the posts. My questions are these :

What exactly are they doing to cause this?

Is there anyhting I can do to stop them doing it?

If it happens again, what can I do myself to get the images back to showing in the posts please?

Any help appreciated.

Are the images ones added via the image button (and are they ones stored on the server or ones stored externally) or are they the smilies/emoticons?

What makes you sure that the hosts are causing this? Have they told you they are doing something?

I believe that image displaying feature is related to the settings on the forum and that is something what not depends on your web hosting.
