I’m looking for a GOOD solid HTML to Wordpress tutorial for users with minimal PHP experience.
I’ve searched Google but didn’t find any decent ones.

A couple of the best ones I’ve found is WordPress, Beginner to Master and [url=http://net.tutsplus.com/articles/news/the-best-psd-to-html-to-wordpress-video-series-available-new-plus-tutorial/]PSD to HTML to WordPress Video Series. Both are premium tuts, but as I’ve said, they are really good and worth every penny.

Most of the good ones are premium. But if you didn’t want to spend anything, here is one I’d recommend from the Theme Foundry: Convert HTML to WordPress. It won’t teach you everything but it lays some good ground work for you. After that I’d probably engross myself in the [url=http://codex.wordpress.org/]WordPress Codex.
Well, Wordpress is so easy to understand that no need to read any lesson or article for it. You just spent some time with the Wordpress you will find your self comfortable with it.
The OP isn’t asking for tutorials about WP use, but about how to transform a HTML template in a WP one.
I found this book had a really good section on it if you really want to read something on it:

But I found just trial and error works well to learn how to create a template in Wordpress. Also, you can use a skeleton template and work from there:

Eh I flipped through that book multiple times and it wasn’t my cup of tea. But that Bones thing seems really neat! I’m definitely going to check it out some more.

No complaining about shelling out a LITTLE money to learn a valuable skill, it’s only like $8 for a month sub to the Tuts network. That’s cheaper than a $50 book.
