HTML Email: use of transparent image and alt attribute for 'can't view' message

Up to now, I’ve had a plain text link to an online version of any HTML email I’ve sent.

I’m considering using a transparent image with the alt & title attributes set to the link text instead.

The reasoning is that it won’t show if images are on but the alt/title attributes will if not.

Will this fall foul of spam filters?

Are you embedding the image in the email or simply linking to it?

If you are linking to it then it will almost certainly be identified as spam since linking to a transparent image is how spammers log email addresses that actually open their email.

I’m would link to it. But isn’t that how everyone tracks their legit email?
