How to upgrade PHP on local server?

This may sound like a dumb question, but I want to be sure and do this correctly. I currently have PHP ver 5.2.6 on my local machine and want to upgrade to PHP ver 5.3.x

Do I just download the 5.3.x files and overwrite my previous files in my PHP folder?

Simply download the VC version you need, extract it and create a new PHP folder called php5.3.x. Copy all the files to it then in your Apache http.conf update the PHP extension path.

NOTE: Depending on how your server is setup it may not work this way

Thanks! I’m assuming all custom settings to php.ini must be copy and pasted over or can I just overwrite the new php.ini file with my old one?

Yes but i would recommend using the php.ini file with the ending called development and then updating it to how you need as between 5.2 and 5.3 there were some php.ini updates.

Thanks again! Great advice…
