This is my first post on this forum and I am seriously looking for some real help.
I have two dynamic sites; one in CGI and another in ASP. I was just wondering how to start optimizing them. They are already well-optimized but are not doing great in SERPs. Both sites have:
Optimized and unique titles
SEO friendly URL
Good internal linking structure
H1 & H2 tags
Almost 1000+ backlinks
Now I would like to know how I can improve the ranking for both sites? Both sites are ecommerce based and sell products.

It sounds like you’ve got the basics covered already, if those sites really do meet those five points (if you want to give us a bit more info about those, we might be able to give you some pointers on how they could be improved further). Are the backlinks on relevant sites and in sensible places, or are they stuffed away in link-farm type places?
The next step is to look at what queries you are optimising your site for. How competitive is the field you’re working in? When you do a search, are the sites that appear above yours relevant and good? If you’re being beaten by sites that do answer the search query, it’s going to be a different kind of battle to if you’ve got random and irrelevant sites above you.
When you do that search that sees you well down the rankings (and what do you mean by ‘not doing great’? eg bottom of page 1? page 10?), are you searching on queries that you want people to type in, or what you think they actually will type in?
If you’re struggling to get to the top of the SERPs for a general field, can you specialise in any way? If you can find more of a niche where the competition isn’t so strong, that can be a good way to build up a business.
Just make sure your data driven content is available via a variety of different “sorts” like thebrand, size, category, color, etc. The googlebot can’t fill out your search form it can only follow links.
Everytime the data is assembled in a new way, it gives you a chance to build your site’s content volume variations on your keywords.
