How to get team experience in web development?

Hello everyone,

My name is Tijl Declerck. I’m a 28 year old aspiring web developer from Belgium. I have been studying web development for over a year and a half now and I am looking to join a team of professionals to help with web development projects.

I have experience with HTML/CSS, Javascript, Angular, Node.js, SCSS, websockets, responsive web design and other skills.

My goal is gaining experience by working together with professional developers. I have made a website that displays my current skill level. It’s a website for fans of a game that has a forum, a chat and a map that localizes other users that live in your neighbourhood.

Edit: I should add that the next 5 months I will be living in Mexico City. I can work remotely and after March 2019 I can relocate to practically anywhere in the world.

As an alternative, you can exercise your skill set here: https://www.freelancer.com/job/

Thanks Steve, I’ll have a look.

Hi, Tijl, and welcome to SP forums.

I believe what you are looking for is an internship. Interns typically don’t get paid, although some intern programs do offer reduced pay (a fraction of what should be earned for the given job.)

I’m not sure how many companies in the U.S. offer internships, but it could be helpful to Google search for them.

If you still want an internship with a company, you’ll need to find a way to get a list of likely candidates and submit your info to them. Searching for “web developer belgium” might be a start, but there has to be a better way.

Hey Wolf,

Do you perhaps have an idea of the type of companies that typically search for interns? Smaller, bigger? In what places should I look? I’ll follow your advice and start with Google

I don’t know, for sure, but I believe companies of all sizes utilize interns.
