How to get an active link to a url onto a DVD

Hi all. I need to burn a dvd with only 2 things on it: an ordinary pdf of a print publication and an icon of some sort which, when clicked, will launch a url in a browser. (The url will be for a “flipping book” of the same publication as in the pdf).

I’ve been told that I have to do this by building an html file which contains the url, which I’ve tested and it does work. Well - sort of works. On my computer it launches Dreamweaver but I would assume on a “normal” computer it would launch the default browser.

If I have to I’ll do it this way but I’d much rather have just a jpeg on the dvd that launches the browser. Is this even possible? Any tips for doing this will be appreciated.

Thanks c2uk - I hadn’t thought of the alias (Mac term for shortcut) option. I’ll give that a try too. You’re right - it’s all easier said than done and I’ve never had to do anything with a dvd before besides burn data files and mail them off to the printers (or burn videos, of course).

Just create a shortcut. On Windows Vista it’s as simple as right mouse click > New > Shortcut > copy & paste the full URL of the page in there and give it a name and you’re done.

You can of course create an html file - make sure that the file has a .html extension and not .php - you can incorporate your jpg image into that document and make a link from it. you could also turn that jpg image into an icon and replace the default internet shortcut icon/html document icon with that.

It’s all easier said then done, which is why some people offer these kind of services and other people pay for these services.
