How to Batch Generate Square Thumbnails?

Hi Everyone,
I have a thumbnail gallery, when clicked it opens the original image.
Am looking for a tool to generate thumbnails from a folder, most importantly it should do “shrink to fit” to a square ratio like 150px by 150px. If the original image is not square, I need it to be centered with the ability to chose the color of the extra space “black bars”.

I have found a great tool “Easy Thumbnails” but it can only specify max-width and max-height, can’t generate square thumbnail if the original image is not square.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks.

Which OS are you using?

I found Irfanview excellent for this on Windows, although it’s been some years since I used it. (I no longer use Windows.)
