How much do you charge for SEO?

I was just wondering how much you guys charge for this kind of work, since I see that more and more people are becoming interested in this thing (for obvious marketing reasons).

Also, did it ever happen to you to be asked to do SEO on a very old website (for example, a nice old website based on frames and tables  )? What do you do in this case?

I haven’t been around for a while but last I knew people didn’t discuss rates here.

You haven’t been around for quite a lot of time then

There are lots of work involve in SEO thus rates depends on the work to be done.

just like with anything in web development; rates vary a lot and usually… you get what you pay for. I’d say for really good on-page SEO; probably about $30-50/hour

SEO can be charged at flat rate or by the hour. I would suggest going for flat rates for obvious reasons. Also, try to set a bottom line that you expect to get out of SEO for maximum returns, if not hired workers online will just skive

I never hire somebody to do seo work for me. I just do it by myself.i never spend money to use paid seo service.I only use the free ways. But they really work well for me.

I would say right now, on-page SEO isn’t all that useful. People who are coming to the top are the ones who are spamming web 2.0 properties and you can get that done pretty cheap.

I’m just going to say it. 90% to 95% of people who claim to be an “SEO Expert” and/or charge for “SEO” work don’t know diddly-squat about “SEO”. Most they will probably do is use some automated tool that throws random links up to random sites. Spam blog comments that have nothing to do with your site, relative subject matter, or other incompatibilities. In other words, anyone that claims to be an “SEO Expert” is not and should be avoided.

Sadly, Sitepoints’ SEO forum is flooded with fake “SEO Experts” giving crappy advice. Almost every thread their is one posting something.

SEO is a huge cheater so there has different rate for different department. Actually I prefer to pay only for off-page optimization .and on-page is my own department.

Ok, talking about flat rates, do you calculate it based on the number of pages?

Just a friendly reminder everyone: While there’s lots of opinions on whether or not you should pay for SEO or who is worth paying, let’s keep to the topic on hand which is what you do, or would, charge if offering services. Thank you!

It purely depends on keyword competition, website pages and the tasks that you do for optimization.

It’s like anything else, charge as much as you can justify charging :stuck_out_tongue:

At the moment SEO is in high demand. In the UK it is normal to charge companies $300 - $400 a month for medium competition keywords and there will be a fair few takers for that.

What do you mean?

It’s 6am and I’ve called your business number. I want you to make my site popular.

What amount of money would get you out of bed to work on my site? In other words, how much money do you need to live on, and how much do you feel your expertise is worth?

Pricing can be difficult to agree upon especially with all the different variables that we encounter in the world of search marketing.

My favorites are project-based, contracts, hourly and standard profit share. I work for one company where we actually touched on several of those within the same campaign, now it’s a profit share arrangement.

Really what I think it comes down to is, “you pay for what you get.”

If the marketers know this, then I believe those will be the ones who end up getting the majority of accounts from customers who are willing to pay for quality. The ones who keep bottom feeder pricing will get customers who are less likely to understand what they are paying for and may cause more trouble than it’s worth in the end. The payoff just isn’t worth it to take on certain accounts.

In the field of SEO, old websites have importance because there are more chances that they can optimize in a short time, but for optimizing new sites, so many factors are to be seen. In my view, $15/hour is a good rate.

Most SEO have different plans for each client.

There is the local plan for the local client who are simply competing with neighbouring businesses.
There is the state-wide plan.
There is the country-wide plan (e.g. US only).
Lastly there is usually a premium world-wide plan (for which the most can be charged).
