How long do google algorithm changes take to effect site rankings?

Hi,
since 24th april i’ve noticed a massive drop in our visits. There seems to be a fair few algorithm changes going around at the moment. The latest one i’ve found was a tweet by google on the 20th confirming a change had taken place on the monday (16th).

Adwords have also took a dive around a similar time, perhaps a little later on the 26th.

Could a change on the 16th take that long to affect my site?

thanks

it can take 3-4 months and then it depends on your operation that you are doing to rank your website.

Do you have an authoritative source for that figure? Is it based on your own experience and observations?

Without a little more information to explain where the figure comes from, it just looks like a magic number, pulled out of thin air. Please provide more details to enable us to judge the reliability of your answer.

I get the general impression that Google is phasing out Webmater Tools and are in the process of creating an alternative.

I have a very old site that had about 200 Google Amp validated pages. There has been no change to the site for quite a few months and there has been a steady decline in the pages recognised by Google. There are no errors or warnings being reported.

I know they changed the name from “Google Webmaster Tools” to “Google Search Console” a few years ago. I haven’t looked into what else may have changed but it seems safe to assume there were changes other than the name alone.

One thing that perplexes me is how many refer to Google as though it were “one universal thing”. AFAIK, it is a collection of many data centers each with many servers and that changes are “rolled out” to data centers over a period of time. In other words, there are no “hard dates” as to when a change happens. It depends on what data center is involved.

They do have a new version of Search Console which is available already, but it is not yet complete. I guess they will finish it before phasing out the current version.

That shows indexed AMP pages, so it could mean they are either dropping your pages form the index for some reason, or they may have moved to goalposts with regard to what complies. I’ve not worked on AMP, but I know they do that with structured data from time to time.

Where is your data coming from? Number of visits is just one metric, there are others you can look at compare against to see if this may be Google related.
