How do you pronounce

Ars Technica

Debbie

Ars Teknika

Ars Technica

It’s simple

make sure you pronounce it like “cars” and not like “farce”

So not like “pain in the a r s e”…

But more like “ars” in “cARS” or “bARS” or “mARS”, right?

Debbie

^ Well, if you insist  In fact, it’s exactly like that.

“A.r.s.e.” Teknika

You need Adobe Flash enabled and below you’ll see the Listen buton.

no, more like “arz”

That wouldn’t be correct.

Being a “pain in the a r s e” is pronounced “arSSSSSSS”.

When I listened to the translation, it is “arZZZZZZ tek-NEE-ka”

But anyways, thanks!

Wow!! Google does own the universe, don’t they?!

Debbie

Exactly.

Debbie

Ahem… No!

I mean, to better understand, teknika should be tekneeka, yeah, but…

As a Romanian I have far better insight on Latin than you. Romanian language is of a Latin origin mostly, and I believe I know better  It’s closer to Italian than any other language.

“Arz” is more like what Saxons would pronounce it. No Latin ever pronounces “Ars” like that. It’s supposed to be clean, not like that. Do you pronounce “zeiy” for “say”? (with “z” like in “use”)

“A r s e” is the pronunciation for it, with the accent on the A. And “teknika” is also pronounced badly. It’s not tek-neeka. It’s tek-neee-ka.

“Aarse Teq-knee-ka”.

“ni” = “knee”. Yes, pronounced like the actual knee.

Well, I’m Spanish and our language, as Romanian, is closely related to latin. I wouldn’t say **** but Ars

“A r s e” for English natives to understand. “Ars” for the Latin rest of us  But “Arz” ? Not a chance!

Noonnope,

So you are saying

“Ars Technica” is pronounced…

arSSS tek-neee-ka

(Where “SSS” is like a “hiss” a snake makes.)

And I was just going on what Google Translator said.

Debbie

No, it’s like

Aars teq-knee-qa

like the water drop on the hot plate.

It’s not (such) a long “s”, it’s an accented semi-long “A”. The “rs” it’s like the sound the water drops make evaporating when dropping on a hot plate. Much like in “Cars”. Minus “C”, of course

NO “Z” !!!

And “teq”, “knee”, “qa” are following each other in an abrupt shortness sequence, like in a contraption, like billiard balls hitting each other.

Yeah, for many languages, the synthetic voice of Google can do better. Don’t rely too much on it.

Sorry, kinda hard to do via the Internet?!

I just typed “SSS” to emphasize it was an “s” sound and not a “z” sound.

I think I’ve got it.

Debbie

my goodness, aren’t we feeling superior

thanks for the language lesson, but i don’t care how you or the italians or any other latins pronounce it, i care more how these guys pronounce it…

… and i’ll bet that’s all that debbie cares about too

Just Noonnope being Noonnope!!

Yep!

Debbie

Care to explain?

What’s that suppose to mean? You don’t care how it’s correctly pronounced, or you have a problem I corrected you about “Arz” ?

I’m sorry, but it’s just not “Arz”, OK?

You do come across as bossy (but not in this thread) at times.

However, over time I’ve come to understand your nature online and try not to take it so literally like before.

It’s all good, just saying.

I have no issues with your points in this thread.

But I’ll let you and r937 duke it out on your own.
