How can you monitor your site for hosting problems

Hi from 6 degrees C totally wet and Windy York UK :slight_smile:

My site is hosted with 123 reg but how can i monitor for issues like the hosting switching off / server errors etc if that makes sense.

Thanks in advance,
David

What do they offer as a management portal? Most seem to use cPanel these days, from which you can get a reasonably good view of things from. It depends to some extent as to what you wish to monitor.

123-reg doesn’t use cPanel; they have their own interface. (And, of course, recently had a major outage affecting VPS customers.)

There are various services you can use which will monitor your site and alert you if it’s down.

I used https://uptimerobot.com/ before which seemed to work quite well.

Saying that if there are any serious issues good web hosts usually have a system to notify you, the main host I use have an email notification system which they use for such issues, in addition to a status page that list any issues with servers. This keeps me aware of anything that could affect my sites.

PS 6 degrees here as well in Northamptonshire, had to light a fire to keep warm!

Thank everyone for your replies :slight_smile:

…and another

Uh, oh, John_Betong. You better watch out. Leaving a link in your reply looks “promotional”. I left a link in my reply in another thread that would have directed the OP to a site that would actually help them answer their question and my reply got deleted for being too “promotional”. Let me guess… this reply is going to get deleted too, right? :wink:

@Technocrat

Sorry, that you seem unhappy with the fact your link was removed, but as you can tell by reading through many of the posts here, the links that remain are typically ones that are on point to the user’s question and are reputable (by either being around for many years or being backed by other sources as solid information).

We strive to find a balance between it all and to ensure the users are receiving solid advice that will outlive the test of time.

Thanks for understanding.

LOL. I understand that, cpradio. The post on which I left a backlink, the OP was asking if anyone knew a reliable and decent hosting company. So, I left a link to a website where the website is actually set up on HostGator’s shared hosting plan and allows people to test how fast HostGator can download the different webpages of that website PLUS, that same website’s uptime is monitored so people can see the TRUE uptime percentage of HostGator based on one of their customer’s own websites. Not only that, there are also links to shared hosting speed tests for Bluehost, GreenGeeks, InMotion Hosting, iPage, and SiteGround on that website as well so, the OP could have tested the speed and uptime percentage of those five hosting companies as well to see which one was fast and reliable, which is what he wanted to know. Seriously. I couldn’t have been any more helpful in answering the OP’s question, unless I actually bought him a website with the hosting company of his choice and let him test it out for a month to see if that hosting company was fast and reliable or not! The ONLY way you can know for sure if a web hosting company is fast and reliable or not is to test them out yourself, which is what those web hosting speed tests allow you to do. Reading some article, or some review left by a stranger is not proof that a web hosting company is fast or reliable. You guys acted like I left a link to some fake web hosting reviews site or something. LOL!
