How can I promote this humor site?

Hello all!

I have a humor site which has been operating since 2009 and gets between 10,000 to 300,000 unique hits a month at the moment.
It would be great if this could be more consistent as when it attracts people it runs really well, how can I promote this site so that it can run at the 300K mark it sometimes hits?

I would focus on social marketing heavily.
Also getting the users engaged to the site somehow could help.
Video is something you could add if its not already part of it.

Since you have said that it is a humor site , you can make use of web 2.0 platforms like squidoo etc. and specific social networks like facebook, reddit. You can also make pictorial infographic with the humor and make them posted on pinterest site!

According to mine you should go for SMO(social media optimization) , today SMO is becoming very useful way for the promotion of site and for bringing huge traffic for site through social networking sites like facebook, twitter etc as well as link building techniques of seo like forum posting, blog commenting, social bookmarking are very usefull techniques for the promotion of site.

Thanks for all your ideas so far. The common ones are obviously the blogging and linking around it routes. I quite like the “making it more social” idea as people like to control things and what they see. People like to get involved, that’s why social media sites end up so popular.

Does the website bring in any money? If so would you consider paying to advertise your site on big - “related” websites… Could be worth a thought if your only going to be using “free” money that your website has generated. If your website makes no money then consider placing advertising or similar and use that money to further it’s promotion. Goodluck.

@peter250, The site does not have any ads on it nor does it bring an income. I have been hesitant on the ad front as have had bad experience with it being more obtrusive than useful in the past.

Promote using promotional products as well. People love freebies all the time and they will definitely remember you if you will going to print your business name into something that is appealing to them.
