Host wanted for wordpress blog

Started this video blog on <snip/> some weeks ago. It seems to get more and more traffic, so I guess one of the next steps is to find a good host.

The site is superfast, and usage of wordpress/php/mysql should make it easy to host. But, which host? At the moment, traffic is somewhere between 200-1500 UV per day. But since we´re just started, I´m off course expecting a lot more.

The host should be able to keep uptime at 99,9%, the price should be maximum 20$ per month, and traffic probhably unlimited. Any good options here?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

There are plenty of webhosts that can offer services for $20 / month, however these will tend to be shared server ones where you don’t have as much control over teh server or what else runs on it.

If the budget can go further, a VPS / Cloud solution might be an option.

hostmonster and hostgator are both reliable just make sure you have akismet comment spam plugin (and supercache wordpress plugin if you have lots of domains on the hosting)

There are no hosts that can do ‘unlimited’ not at $20, not at $20,000.

Every host that advertises ‘unlimited’ actually means ‘if you use a lot of stuff we’ve got various small print reasons why we’ll shut you down, and you’ll probably be surprised that at how little it is’

My say would be - there is nothing like an unlimited host.
But for around $20/ month you could get a relatively good host with reasonable bandwidth. Reasonable bandwidth / host space ratio would be say 1gb hosting space with say between 5-10gb data transfer / month.

Ideally, you should analyze your user base. Say if majority of users are from a particular region, then it would also help to have servers in that region (for better user experience)

Secondly you could also look at say separating your web hosting & video hosting. There are dedicated video hosts like say even youtube or vimeo (has paid options Vimeo Plus). By doing that, you will not need a lot of bandwidth transfer at your hosting level.

Any PHP host that supports mySQL for the database will work. Just find a cheap host that you have done good research on and give them a go. Make sure they have BBB accreditation and a 30 day money back deal.

Thanks so much for your answers. I think dedicated hosting might be the one and only option from now. The host we use now, has a lot of downtime. Since we don´t know why, it´s better to run the whole thing ourselves. And we´re probhably adding some more advanced stuff into the site quite soon.

Do you know where can I find good dedicated servers for a good price? (please nevermind the previosly mentioned budget at $20).

You know that might be good budget for unmanaged VPS - but that would impossible for you to find good dedicated server at that price.

I recently came over Rackspace. Looks like the right solution to go for at this point.

Does any readers in this forum have any experience with that host? Thanks in advance.

really my vote would be against a dedicated hosting for a single blog. @adrenalinfeed has not mentioned the approximate data transfer / day and disk space usage. Managing a dedicated hosting is totally different from managing a shared hosting.
I would really first identify what the issue is because if its only because of downtimes @adrenalinfeed wants to shift, that can be done by checking out better hosts. Ideally a dedicated IP with a VPS would be the next step according to me rather than jumping to a dedicated hosting. I also seriously doubt anyone can provide even a basic config dedicated hosting at the $20 range. A reasonably good dedicated hosting would not start at anywhere less than 100-200$ / month range

Its not that complicated, you can go ahead with any of the top hosting provider, like hostgator, justhost, bluehost.

May be you need vps or dedicated server.

Thanks for any answers. We now use dreamhost, which (so far) looks to cover all our needs.

well not bad choice…Dreamhost has good repute and one of the reliable hosts. Anyways there are many others which meet the WordPress minimum requirements like StartLogic, Laughing Squid, IX Web Hosting, AN Hosting, HostICan and bluehost. Reliability, uptime, performance and customer support are some of the factors which should be kept in mind during selection.

adrenalinfeed, what hosting plan did you decided on and how does it compare to what you transitioned from?
