Home view panorama

Hello photographers!

I’d like to propose a nice topic so, each of us will provide a view from his/her balcony/window.
It can be one or more photos, the idea is that maybe we’ll like each others cities and maybe we’ll visit each others sometimes.
Or maybe we’ll just see some new real places.

Me first:

Bucharest, Romania

Full-size photo here

Great idea, @vectorialpx - and an interesting view of the Bucharest skyline. What time of day was that taken? I like the light on the buildings.

Unfortunately, our windows pivot centrally, and despite my best efforts at contortions, I’ve not managed to lean out far enough to take a panoramic shot. :frowning: So this is the best I can manage, taken through the glass:

It’s not the most scenic view round here, but I like it - and it can be quite interesting, too.

That’s just one of the regular ferries, but sometimes we have cruise ships, tall ships, survey ships … and if I see anything passing which I don’t recognise, I know to walk down to the pier for a closer look.

It was on 7PM and the sky was cloudy. Even the sky was nice, I added a bit of contrast and color.

Looks like you have quite a nice view. I hope you’re not annoyed by ships horns
The most thing I like in UK (and looks like Scotland too) is that almost all houses are designed in the same way.

They’re usually only sounded when it’s foggy - and apart from the ferries two or three times a day, there isn’t a great deal of shipping. So no, it’s not an annoyance at all. I even quite like hearing the fog-horns - it tells me there’s something out there, even if I can’t see it.

The housing on the right-hand side is all one complex - sheltered housing for the elderly.

That’s a bit disappointing @TechnoBear; I expected you to live in an old stone croft.

At least I can not see any slate in the gardens - my sister used to live in Castle Douglas and it seemed like everybody had broken slate for their gardens.

[ot]

Can’t afford one. (Seriously, we’re beginning to suffer from the same problem Mull has, where holiday home owners are driving the prices up beyond what locals can afford. :()

I don’t think there is any slate locally, which probably explains that. Although I gather the local geology is pretty interesting and varied, but I’m no expert there.[/ot]

Looks like there are not so many willing of showing their window view

Strange. It seemed like a great idea - one everybody could join in with.

A panorama from any window in my house will just show other houses very similar to each other and close to mine and is not very interesting.

It will be common for you but others may appreciate it

I agree - it’s alays interesting to see other areas and other styles of architecture.

And even if you can’t take a panorama or scenic view, I’m sure everybody can find something of interest from their window. For example, the reason I think of SitePoint as soon as I open my curtains in the morning :):

Well here is a photo from my study window; as I say not very exciting.

I’m intrigued by the fact you appear to have a watch-tower at the bottom of your garden.

Right you are, I missed that. What struck me is considering the relative dearth of windows in the other structures, having a window to take a photo from is a good thing.

The “watch tower” is the end of a three story house. This is a new village and they have mixed up the designs and styles to make it more interesting. I suppose this one is more of a northern design as the wall extends past the height of the roof on the front. There are some more three story ones off in the distance on the right hand side of the photo.

What struck me is considering the relative dearth of windows in the other structures, having a window to take a photo from is a good thing.

In the UK there are rules controlling the house construction and one of them is efficiency. A cavity wall with 100mm insulation is four time more insulating than a double glazed window. So to reach the required efficiency it is cheaper/easier to put in smaller or less windows.

Not a panorama as such, but a montage of the view from my living room window at different times:

Wow EastCoast, that’s quite a view. It makes me embarrassed to show the view out of my own window, but o well, what the heck:

We live on an acreage about 30km from Melbourne. This shot was taken with the panorama feature on the iPhone, so it’s a bit of a distorted 180 degree view.

Normally there would be a mob of kangaroos in the middle of that scene, but unfortunately they are out frolicking today.

The L plate says it all.

Wow - those really are stunning. (I was going to ask if that’s Marischal College, but I’ve just noticed the clue that says yes. ;))

Interesting landscape - shame the kangaroos are AWOL.

Indeed.

Yes, it’s Marischal college. I sat a few exams there back in the day, the students always wanted to have their last exam there instead of King’s college so they could straight to the pub afterwards as it’s right in the city centre. Also used to have a museum with a lot of egyptian stuff. Unfortunately, it’s now been taken over by the city council as offices.

Ralph, lovely view. One thing I really miss staying in a city centre is proximity to wildlife and the sounds and placidity of nature.

Hehe, in Australia they go there beforehand, too.

Unfortunately, the sounds of nature have been overridden by the sounds of bulldozers etc. over the past 6 months, as there is a new road and estate going in nearby.
