High profile companies using PHP, MySQL, Linux, Apache?

If I’m trying to convince people (ie. potential customers) why the combination of Linux+Apache+PHP+MySQL is so great, it’s always good to give them some examples of where big, prestigious multi-national companies and their web sites are using the same technologies (or at least one or two of them)

Here’s a few examples, but I’d like to hear from others about other ‘big’ companies using these technologies - the bigger and more well-known the companies, the better!

LINUX
IBM (www.ibm.com)
Amazon (www.amazon.com)

APACHE
Amazon (www.amazon.com)

PHP
er… I know heaps of small-medium sites, but who are the biggies?

MySQL
NASA (see http://www.mysql.com/articles/us/nasa.html)

Again, I’m looking for well-known, multi-national brand name companies here…

Large organizations running PHP include:

MCI/Worldcom, Dialpad, Google, Mitsubishi, Redhat, MP3.com, Lycos, Ericsson, Volvo, NASA, the W3C, SourceForge, Honda, Xoom, WinAmp, Sony Music, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, the US Army, UPI, the New York Yankees, Southwestern Bell, the San Diego Zoo, the Oakland Raiders, Audi, Subaru, VA Linux, Winamp, Duke University, Quicken, The Village Voice, Undernet, Access Micro

a little off-topic here  but i’ve gotta say PHP probably won’t catch on fast enuff in big corporations IMHO… my little work experience tells me that most corporations have something like their ‘standard’ programming language, standard server-side prog language, standard scripting language… the company i’m ‘interning’ at uses JSP, Java, and Perl for it’s purposes… no way they’re gonna use PHP or Python or even the .NET framework anytime soon…

One for the list http://www.bluewin.ch/ - Bluewin are the national telcos ISP company in Switzerland which more or less everyone uses - it’s PHP3 so these guys were way ahead. You have to look a little hard to find it like here for example

Bang and olufsen who make all the fancy hi-fi equipment use php, I know the website is not exactly high usage like amazon, but they are high profile.

I think the problem with PHP in regard to large companies using it is that some like banks, insurance etc require very high security that can only be implemented with java or .net. Also large companies may have several types of server dotted around the world or require applications that again java and .net are better suited to dealing with rather than php.

I thought he was just joking when he posted that…

The way i figure is most companies want ASP coz they can get support from Microsoft. I’m currently looking for jobs here in Melbourne and all companies are looking for ASP/VB, SQL Server Developers. None are looking for PHP/MySQL developers. Well, maybe the odd one in a million…

Hmmm - know plenty of UK companies that are developing in php (and not small ones), look harder!!

What? Devi Ant Art? Alright - the new wave of post modernist ants!

PS - H: would love to know some places to look for PHP jobs in the UK. It’s starting to look like I’m going home end of the summer. Jobserve is ok but it would be great to skip the agencies and got straight to the source.

Hmmm… not sure about that. CapitalOne is a huge financial services company using PHP as the backbone of their consumer site. I know of some other insurance companies and financial institutions are deploying both internal and external applications using PHP because of the huge cost savings (development and hardware) over Java-based solutions.
