I’d like a bit of direction to plan a site. If you think it’s more trouble than it’s worth, please say.
I’m a hobbyist and my day job is in health and social care. My team often needs to signpost people who use our service to other helping organisations. There is no single, local directory of relevant, local and national helping organisations. There is Google, I know but I would like a single resource. In the past, we have tried to have a resourcec draw but that’s hopeless.
I want to use WP because I’m more familiar with it. I couldn’t code it myself.
I want to be able to allow each organisation to manage their own pages. I guess I would need to do invite people to join.
It has to cost nothing. I’d pay a years hosting and for the domain but that’s where it ends. I’d like to be able to hand it over to a computer training charity to manage eventually if it was successful
So you want to use a square peg for your round hole because you are scared of writing it yourself?
Wordpress is a blog and a sometimes passable CMS. It is not a business directory script of some sort. At best you’ll end up with business directory entries masquerading as a blog posts.
I’d go with incapable rather than scared - I’m a Tigrrrr!
I’m at intermediate level with Wordpress (being a little optimistic) so am a bit familiar with it. These days, they say it’s more than a passable CMS. There are some directory plugins and themes out there but the more highly regarded ones are paid for. I don’t want to commit to something that costs me money to find that I can’t achieve what I want to.
