Heh. Funny guy. Never heard of such a thing – so far as my experience goes college degrees in anything IT related aren’t worth as much as a sheet of bog roll. They’re typically taught by people who aren’t qualified to open their mouths on the subject, using decade out of date materials, broken methodologies and rote memorization instead of actually trying to teach you the fundamental concepts needed to actually get a job in the field… which is why most every employer has to waste three months to a year brining you up to speed after hiring – at which point they’re better off going and recruiting high school kids at a job fair and giving them on the job training.

Meh. Probably true. Although college degrees always look good. I would say a college degree plus much everyday experience would help.

Most schools offer some sort of tech degree in those fields. You’d want an art college (probably) for graphic design and a liberal arts for the web development.

I dropped out of college when a class covered VB instead of VB.NET, it was 2003. Plus, College is a waste of time, and spending your entire life to pay off $40,000 in student loans doesn’t help. College is a scam.

It really is a waste. I’m in a Business Computers class (not the correct title) and we are going over the Office products. Literally the same stuff that we went over in Highschool. It’s such a scam.

I don’t even want to think about taking a programming or web design class. I had to do a programming class in HS…that was pretty terrible.

Hey Ryan, that was another problem with my brief stint with College. The Office Course I took used an old version, 2 gens from the current MS Office at the time. At the end of the day it comes down to this, a piece of paper vs. proven experience dictated in a portfolio.

I have other places to spend the $40G’s on.

Maybe you guys just went to really ****** schools. Though I will agree that web design/development degrees are a waste of time. If you want to be a web designer get a graphic design degree. You will learn nothing about the web but you should learn all the fundamentals that can be applied to just about all mediums.

by the way… graphics design is not the profession. It is graphic design. People who say graphics design are viewed as complete idiots who have no idea what they are doing.

The highlight of the smeester so far, is where we spent the full 80 minute class, teaching people how to cut, copy, paste. Different ways to do that, etc.

We did get time at the very end to move onto how to bold, italicize, and underline though! FACINATING!.

Today was excel, and learning formulas…Unfortunately I’m so close to graduating it’s not really an option just to drop out now. I’ve gone this far…
