Google Translate Web Element Help

I’m using the web element embed tool on a client site to auto translate the site, or give the user the option to pick a language.

My client wants a dedicated link to translate to French as they have a lot of clients from Montreal. The only way I can see to do this, is to create the link myself and append #googtrans(en|fr) to the URL.

I got this info off the help page. First link under ‘Google Translate for Webmasters’ http://support.google.com/translate/?hl=en

The problem is that it doesn’t work in IE or Safari. I’ve only had it working in Chrome and Firefox. Even on Google’s own page I linked above, they offer a working example of the link and it doesn’t work in the browsers I mentioned. So I know I’m not doing it wrong on my client site.

The problem seems to be with the hash link. In Safari and IE, when you reload the page with hash in it (#googtrans(en|fr)), it loads the page without it, and thus the Google translation doesn’t kick in.

I think you really should create the link yourself and try the results you get.

I did and it doesn’t work, which is why I posted this thread…
