Google has released what they’re calling an SEO report card for 100 of their own products. While it’s not specific to your site, we can all learn a bit from seeing where they managed to fall short.
I think it’s pretty amazing that a company like this will publicly point out their shortcomings so that others can learn from their mistakes. As far as I’m concerned, this puts one in the Google column.
What an interesting and innovative way of analysing a website design for potential improvements and pass rates. I might actually adopt that kind of model in my own website design services and offer some kind of “report card” style service when consulting with clients. Thanks for the link Jeff!
I think this is just more evidence of Google’s current campaign to redefine SEO into something that they can approve of without encouraging spammers. Everything in that PDF, just like their ‘SEO guide’ is all about designing a page well and NOTHING at all to do with it ranking well. There are no ‘off-page’ factors at all, I wouldn’t even call that stuff SEO since SEO in my book is about improving the quality and vollume of traffic to your site from search engines. Having a well optimised site is ‘Search Engine Friendly’, not SEO.
