Google Analytics Problem

Hi,

Not sure if this is the place to ask Google Analytics questions (no one ever replies in the official GA forum). Any help/advice would be much appreciated

I work for a website that gets about 30000 visits a day. We have 2 different profiles in our GA account; one is the main profile and the other is a test profile.

We’re trying to test some website changes and so I created a new goal yesterday (a simple URL head match goal). Today, I’ve seen that the all visits figure for yesterday has dropped dramatically (by about 70%). I don’t know if this is to do with the new goal I created - I don’t see how creating a goal can cause the problem, but since no other changes have been made (besides also creating new segments), I can’t account for it in any other way.

I know for a fact that the website’s actual traffic has not dropped by 70%, because if I go into the test profile it shows as normal.

Any help/advice much appreciated and needed!

Thanks
Andrew

Creating a goal won’t inhibit visitors from being tracked in the standard analytics ranks. Did you change any of the HTML code for GA on the website itself?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your reply. I didn’t change any HTML. By 24 hours later the traffic stats were reading normal, without me making any further changes. So there was some weird delay with Google’s data. I’m happy now though that everything’s fine again

Cheers
