Good FTP program?

OK, so for years I’ve been using the basic WS FTP program (yes, I’m
a student  so it was free ) but I was just curious what others prefer

I always wanted an FTP program that allows you to change the “store
folder” of data (your website setups and password) so this info can be
stored in My Documents and easily backed up along with your data.

I’d like to do this because I’m a big fan of Acronis True Image and when
I restore to an earlier time, I lost any new websites I may have setup
in my current FTP program and I have to set them up again.

Anybody know if a good FTP program capable of this?

Other than this, what do you use for FTP?
(I’m interested in seeing what’s out there for FTP)

I use FileZilla.

It allows you to create a backup of the sites in your site manager as well as the settings you have customized. Not sure if it does it the way you want to do it, but it can be done manually for sure.

What I was thinking is something similar to Outlook Express…which allows you to have
a folder in My Documents and you go in to the program and change the store folder
to a folder you setup in My Documents instead of the default folder on your C drive
in the program files of the FTP program.

That way, your storing all of the program settings, passwords, etc in your
My Documents to be backed up with all your other data and it’s not on your
C drive in case you need to restore that to an earlier time

I thoght it’d be a nice feature and ought to be easy to do for those smarty pants
guys that create software programs (I’d have no clue how to do that, but if they
can make it, I can learn to use it)

I’ve been using an older copy of CoreFTP for some time now. I haven’t had any problems with it so I see no reason to change.

Not sure about the store folder stuff, but I"ve been using Filezilla for years since switching from CuteFTP and have been quite happy with it.

KM Richards, SmartFTP can do that (from what I’ve seen at least), it allows you to backup your files but it stores all your data in the Appdata folder (and you can change it’s location). It’s not a free product but it’s hands down the best FTP client I’ve ever used… by a LONG stretch

Great, thanks for the lead. I don’t mind paying for it at all.

I’ll second that.
