Glow and underline script

I need a script that can add a glow around a png image with transparancy within a class. Simultaneously (color) underline text within a <ol> ?

Is there any particular reason you want to generate the CSS for this from JavaScript rateher than just coding the CSS directly?

It can be done using CSS, a simultaneous link effect ! How ?

I don’t want to apply the glow on the image. I want CSS to find the transparency of the image and apply it. That is why my original route was JS.

I think it would help if you post your html and describe more clearly what you want to happen and when you want it to happen.

Is there anything that can be shown to me to demonstrate, I’d prefer that route

The reason I asked to see your html and a more clear description is because

does not make sense to me.

You say above that you want the css to somehow find the transparency portion on an image and then apply it. (:

What is the “it” referring to? And why are you now after a CSS solution when originally you wanted a javascript solution.

I’m not going to spend time posting possible solutions, which might be useless to you, based on my guessing what you really want.

Felgal suggested I use CSS, I replied maybe that is another route. Then it dawned on me that if I wanted to have a hover glow effect with CSS I’d have to add the glow in a image editing program, I want to go another route and let the script do it.

The images are PNG with transparency. I want the script to find that transparency, from my scripting knowledge which is rusty should be possible. Apply the glow to an img/class tag and at the same time apply an colored underline to a <ol> or <p> tag.

ok, so I’m assuming you want to learn how to do it and not just looking for someone to do it for you.

Post the code for your attempt so far and we can try to help. Otherwise your other option is to wait for someone here or elsewhere to post the code for you.

Well my attempts have been at best, not good. I originally thought there was a script already available.

A starting point would be helpful piece by piece, until it’s complete.

Nothing you have said makes any sense. Perhaps an image of the before and after of what your trying to achieve would be most appropriate considering the trouble in articulation.

My understanding of what the OP is after is going from this left image to the right image.

So that the resulting image on a background might be something like this:

Would that be a fair assessment?

Note: the images in these examples were not achieved by any automated process. It instead involved editing in an image manipulation program to put together those examples.

Paul was right on target. A PNG has transparency. A Glow would have to be applied around the transparency, I’m just taking my graphic knowledge and want to translate that to code.

then why didn’t you just say you wanted to apply a stroke around part of an image?

add a glow around a png image with transparancy

I thought that was understood

Nope, because what you said can also be interpreted in this way:
transparent borders

This is why using the correct terminology allows you to communicate your wants and desires in such a way that they can be more easily understood by others.

Now that everyone understands.

When would you like the glow to be applied to the image – on hover?

we’re back to where we were earlier in your thread with:
