Frustrating pdf error

A client sent us 2 pdf files to post on their web site. We were able to open and view the pdf’s on both our mac and pc. We uploaded them to the web server and when we tested them by linking directly to the files in the address bar eg. www.site.com/filename.pdf we get a “The file is damaged and cannot be repaired error from Adobe”. We also tested them using an <a href> link in the web page but got the same error. We also get embedded font errors. We have tried at least 20 different conversion settings and even got the original doc file and converted it (using Adobe Acrobat pro on the mac and CutePDF on the pc, and also tried the online pdf creator at adobe.com) but are still getting the same error.

It is strange that we can view the pdf file just fine until we try and download it from the site.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything similar and how did you fix it!

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Are you certain it is being uploaded as binary and not as text?

you are exactly right!! Can’t believe I wasted so much time trying to figure this out and it was just the setting in my ftp program - should have posted here after the first hour lol!

Thanks so much
