Free intro to Computer Science

Harvard is offering a free intro to Computer Science online.

Anyone wanting to get started with programming or to brush up their skills should give it a shot.

That looks good, Mark. I’m surprised they can offer so much for free like that.

That looks great! In case anyone is interested, Stanford is also offering it’s entire photography course for free online. There doesn’t seem to be a lack of information out there, but rather a lack of time to learn it all! http://graphics.stanford.edu/courses/cs178-11/

You should check the MIT. They do have some online free courses and you can find some full courses in video in iTunes

Yes, some years ago I learned that the big educational institutions in the US receive funding partly on the condition that they offer something back to the world. I assume this is still the case. At the time, it was often in the form of online libraries or other such projects, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this is trending towards more educational web content like video courses.

Also check out the other big competitor to edX which is Coursera! Many good courses available for free and for a fee they can get you certified too  Worth checking them out. I’ve been meaning to start a few myself too, but life gets in the way!
