I am thinking of publishing an eBook trough internet. One of my friend already has a server and he can give me a bit of space and traffic. All I need a domain (I could have done with a sub domain but whatever) and a good script which would allow me to sell my eBook trough Paypal.
I looked at lots of shopping charts and sales letter creators and 3rd party websites like bytecommerce and clickbank etc. But nothing so far. I am alright with PHP and HTML so if I could find a script which has spesification bellow I could implement it to my website.
Script I am looking for should only have simple spesifications:
*Able to process transactions trough PayPal
*Create a time based link (lets say 3 days) and email it to buyers paypal email.
*Some simple statistical data would be welcomed but not really necessary. I can implement a simple counter to my “thankyou” page so I would know at least how many people out of my visitors bought it. : P
*Also that would be nice to have a email database based on my buyers paypal email adress so I can just send out news about my other eBooks if I ever have. Well if not at least I can create an email archive trough my own paypal account from the payment infos.
Is there a simple script to achieve these. I will have only a single product so a whole shopping cart would be too heavy. Also I dont need a chart but only a “Buy Now” button to do the job. I spent half of my day in here and google to just get me started but so far no luck. : P
The file always sends properly just sometimes it ends up in the buyer’s spam folder.
I always have the script send a copy to me as well so as to be able to confirm that the email actually sent correctly and should have been received. If someone contacts me to say they didn’t get the file then I forward them a copy.
If I was selling huge numbers of scripts then I’d drop the copies to me and just look up their info in the log table I create as well to confirm their purchase before sending a copy (since I also send them a code allowing them to resend the script at any time in the following 12 months since all my scripts include 12 months support.
I figured why email them a time limited link to a download page when you can simply email the files to them directly so I set up my own Paypal IPN script that wirks that way and have even managed to sell a few copies of the script using the script itself to handle the sales.
People always want control over everything so they waste all this time installing scripts, testing them, troubleshooting them, upgrading them. That is time that could be spend on actual productive items like generating sales.
I am a member of a writing community and I might be able to find you some testers and customers to sell your script.
About the suggestions…
*Simple statistics of visitors, sales, the ratio between sales and visitors, daily monthly and yearly unique visitors.
*Using it for a single product with a buy it now button or able to use it with a chart system…
*Auto creation of a newsletter database based on users emails and ability to unsuscribe from it via a link which has been sent at the bottom of each email.
*Multi language capability. (it is really genius that how does simple machines forum script implemented it)
So far these are the thing I could suggest there should be. There is stuf of course should be there like SEO friendly links etc. Also instead of implementing a full fetched script that would be great if you would implement a Word Press plugin so people could just insert it to their existing blogs. ; )
I am sorry if I did sound demanding or rude. I just get exited when people asks my opinion when they develope anything. LOL
I will be grateful if you could be one of the early beta testers. If you have more suggestions, ie, things to add to the script, that would be great. I will PM you when the script development reaches its beta testing phase.
Thank you. I will look into that. There will of course be some basic stats.
Obviously, script with every desirable feature will be complex and difficult to manage by the customer. Someone selling few ebooks does not want a script that overwhelms him. So I have to take that into account. Something that is robust and effective with basic features may be what many people are after. But it is very interesting to know what people in this line of business such as you think. What they see appropriate and they see overkill. I have to get the right balance.
I can wait if you need me to be your beta tester. : ) I am actually going to use it in next few months. But it is a good idea to write a script for that. There is a lot of writers out there can not publish books and have to rely on ebooks but don’t wanna bother with payloadz.com and such in the sake of professional aperreance…
I am finalizing a script that does exactly as you described above. Everything on the front page, including the site title, tell and email as well as ebooks are added from the admin section. You see all orders. Items there most ordered and how many ordered by who? and more. It is easy to manage really.
I don’t know how soon you want this script deployed.
