Our forums and bookstore will be down for ~5 hours for server migration, from 10:00:00 p.m. Monday October 25, 2010 GMT. Wish us luck!
It is more than just the forums… quite a few of our systems are being moved. It is a MASSIVE undertaking, and I have overestimated so that the guys aren’t under more pressure than necessary.
okay…thanks for informing us!Goodluck!
<snip/>
5 hours, wow… wow… in this day and age?
Good luck.
I’m just glad I won’t need SPF at that time of night.
:bawling:
Nope. Those will be addressed some time after the migration
are wider code blocks a part of the migration? :bouncy2:
As a temporary measure, the width was increased from 480px to 700px.
Unless i am loosing it, they look to be slightly better, 30ish% vs 20% wide.
Good luck Hawk & co
Haha, you’re jumping the gun… it’s not the next day yet. We go down in 15 mins.
Well, it’s the next day after - the Forums are up - so congrats to the guys working on the migration (unless it all went pear-shaped and you had to roll back migration).
I’m seeing about a second in increased site-load time (using gtmetrix + webpagetest.org) - it’s still slow (but SitePoint doesn’t do very well with site speed overall)…
I almost doubled them a couple of days ago…
You should notice increased performance… is that what you mean?
There will be no noticeable change - we won’t be upgrading the forum software. We are migrating off our legacy servers to to Amazon’s EC2 cloud service.
Any details of the change upcoming? Is vb 4 being brought aboard??
woot I am not losing it:)
O no! Do you actually mean I will have to get some work done for 5 hours? Jeez, how will I cope?!
Seriously though, good luck! This has been a long-awaited upgrade. I’m looking forward to the better server performance.
hey thnkx for the info… i hope it will get better soon:)
Good luck!
Why am I thinking that something is going to change?
I was curious to see if I’d get a custom “Sorry we’re down” screen or a routine error message.
Neither!
A very short 5 hours?
EDIT:
Ah, it seems sitepoint is OK but sitepointstatic isn’t?
We’re just doing some testing…
